Wandering Through the Wild Center

A late August day brought a long overdue trip to the Wild Center in Tupper Lake. Much of the time was spent enjoying the Wild Walk and the indoor attractions, it was what we saw outdoors that captured our attention and clearly sparked the imaginations of the children playing in and around the installments.

On the more peaceful side, there was the immersive Shape, Form, and Light steel sculpture exhibit featuring music of Whatever Penny. Think: A meditative walk through the woods with really cool twists. The Stickwork installation by Patrick Dougherty felt like a part primeval, part ultra modern construction pulled from fantasy and placed right in the middle of the Adirondack woods. The design and details of the construction are never lost, but they give way to artist’s incredible vision and the entirety of the piece. Whether it’s sticks, steel, sounds, or souvenirs, the Wild Center does not disappoint.
